For the sake of this debate, a charter school is a school that receives government funding but operates privately and independent from the established state & public education system. The operations and curriculum of the school are determined by private actors, particularly those part of the charter school's board. Unlike other forms of private education, charter schools do not have to subscribe to regulation in education beyond the requirements of having core subjects (i.e. math, science, language, etc.) but the content of subjects, regardless of them being classified as core or specialized, is up to the charter school's board.
